GUITAR COWBOY

December 3, 2008 by Felix Mayerhofer

Indians, cowboys, rustling, and a stampede are all part of this exciting cowboy story in rhyme in the style of Louis L’Amour.  At the center of this adventure is a 13-year-old boy who rides, lassos, and shoots with the best of them, deserved of a sheriff’s star.  You’ll read this cowboy epic more than once.

Inspiration

Louis L’Amour, the great Western author, made my imagination run wild with stories about the West: cowboys, Indians, plenty of gun shootin’ and cattle drives.  With L’Amour in mind I decided to write a cowboy story for children.  An idea for one formulated in my mind, but since I’d recently been writing stories in rhyme, I decided to continue in that genre.  For some reason or other it was going to be a tragedy, with the young hero ending on “Boot Hill” cemetery, where all bad hombres ended.  As I began writing, the story took a different turn, which I think you’ll find more to your liking.
